Networking Like an Extrovert When You're an Introvert
If you're an introvert like me, the thought of networking and socializing in large groups makes me want to crawl under the covers. But as a creative business owner, it's important to establish and cultivate valuable connections with other creatives, which means getting outside your comfort zone.
Do your research: Check out people on social media first before you head out into real life. It helps you feel more prepared and less like you’re going on a blind date.
Take a friend: An extroverted friend can help be a buffer when engaging and starting conversation with people you don’t know.
Ask questions and listen intently: People love to talk about themselves, so use that to your advantage and take some of the weight off your shoulders and learn more about them in the process.
Tell yourself the right things: By recontextualizing our thoughts, we can change the trajectory of the “performance”.
Follow up afterwards: Solidify your new relationship and connections by engaging after the event on social media.
