4 Ways To Be A Better Business Owner This Year

For my last episode of 2019, we're going to cover the two things you need to STOP doing and the two things you need to START doing in 2020 to be a better business owner. Let's make 2020 the best year yet for you and your creative business!

STOP trying to control every little detail

  • Delegate, delegate, delegate. If you can’t hire full-time help, you need to invest in a virtual assistant in 2020.

  • If you’re doing everything yourself and refusing to let others learn and help you, you will never scale your business. It is physically impossible. If your goal is to grow your business and expand your reach, you’re going to have to loosen the reigns and give up some control.

  • You don’t need to hire for skills. Hire for values and attitude and then teach them the skills. You just need to be willing to invest the time and the patience.

START putting yourself first

  • If you’re staying up until the darkest hours of the morning catching up on emails, orders, or client projects, you’re not actually helping your business.

  • When you care for yourself, your entire work performance improves.

  • When you’re a business owner, self-care means boundaries.

  • Map out your ideal week, complete with breaks and self-care routines, and then pencil it into your schedule as a non-negotiable.

STOP getting distracted by shiny object syndrome

  • In 2020, let your values guide all your business decisions.

  • Do your research into anything and everything.

  • Look back on past partnerships or opportunities and see what you can proactively plan moving forward from what you learned during your previous experience.

  • Don’t say yes just because someone asked you. If you make all of your decisions based on your core values, you’ll never have to question motives or worry about results.

START getting your shit together

There’s nothing better you can do for your business than starting the year off organized.

If you only have two systems implemented, they need to be:

  • A project management tool like Asana or Trello

  • A bookkeeping system like Quickbooks or Xero.
