Vanity Numbers Are Bullshit

Why vanity numbers don’t matter

What are vanity numbers vs. real metrics?

  • followers, likes, comments vs. website taps

You can use vanity numbers to see what type of content people like but it still doesn't help you nail down what content actually converts.

  • Real metrics are tied to your goals

  • Vanity metrics are ego-based; who cares how many people liked your reel

What should I focus on instead?

  • Set real, tangible goals for your social media.

    • Ask yourself what actually matters for your brand. Are you trying to build awareness? Convert + make sales? Use your objective to set goals around your social media strategy.

    • Once you have your social media goals, you can see which metrics you’ll need to track in order to make sure you are heading down the right path.

      • Example metrics: Engagement rate (important!), reach, impressions.
